Making 10p (addition)

Teachers notes

uki30a, uki30b and uki30c - aim to teach and reinforce number bonds to ten, and give children practice in the completion of number sentences. Children will already have had experience in recording simple addition sums. They will be familiar with the + and = signs. They will also have had plenty of practical experience with shopping games where items are priced at 1p each. At this stage, only 1p coins will be used.

uki30a - Talk to the children about the jars of 1p stickers pictured. Read all the instructions together. Look at the first set of ten stickers. Talk about the partition dividing the sun symbols from the bee stickers. Count the stickers in each part and then count "how many altogether." Read each number sentence and make sure that each child understands how they have arrived at the solution. Children should now be able to complete this activity, plus uki30b and uki30c, with a minimum amount of assistance.

Many children have great difficulty in completing number sentences like the 2nd and 3rd sentence under each of the sets on these activities. The positioning of the number sentences on the activities has been designed to help overcome their problems.

Instructions
Count the number of stickers that Timmy Ten buys using the number bonds.  Then complete the number sentences.  When you have finished click on the blue tick to see how well you have done.
